- This mixing contest is US, Canada and EU only.
The Artist:
A note from the artist about the files:
“The FX folder is stems with my plugins and volume exports - this is what Kris used to mix the track. The Dry folder is everything completely flat in case you want to use something from there.“
Taking its name from the Peruvian geoglyphs, NZCA LINES is the solo musical venture for Michael Lovett who has previously played guitar/synthesiser on Christine and the Queens’ recorded material and has performed as part of Metronomy. His previous two LPs earned critical acclaim on both sides of the Atlantic and found Lovett opening for the likes of Conan Mockasin and Django Django as well as performing at Glastonbury Festival
Produced almost entirely by Lovett and written between London, New York and Los Angeles, where he found himself present for some key UK and US political and social moments, new album Pure Luxury revels in both the insular – the sound of one man processing anxiety-inducing world events - and the communal. Moving away from the themes of a fictional utopia and a fake apocalypse, in a world fast becoming what seemed like a real dystopia, the follow-up to 2016’s Infinite Summer is part disco pop, part hip hop grooves, all bassline - a record of diverse styles, voices and textures, expanding the musical universe of Lovett’s previous albums whilst cementing his own playful voice with an inescapable sense of joy and excitement.
With tracks written as a response to the notions of luxury, status, and the insanity of pursuing material wealth in the face of environmental catastrophe (“Pure Luxury”), tackling the climate crisis (“Larsen”, a break-up track namely, the breaking up of the Larsen C ice shelf in 2017) and the closing moments of a relationship (the bereft “Take This Apart”), Pure Luxury features some of Lovett’s rawest and most direct material to date. Tomorrow might be scaring the hell out of us, but, as Lovett reminds us on the album’s closing track, “tonight is all that really matters, as long as we keep dancing”.
The Prize:
The TRINNOV ST2PRO features Trinnov’s loudspeaker/room optimization technology, with its four simultaneous processing channels and support for any stereo speaker setup with 1 or 2 subwoofers or bi-amp system.
MEET YOUR LOUDSPEAKERS CHARACTERISTICS
The Optimizer provides you with a unique set of data and comprehensive toolbox to get the absolute best from your speakers in any given room. With a single measurement, the Optimizer gives you both the direct response and the global acoustic response of your speakers in the room. You can then define the target curve that will best meet your loudspeakers characteristics whilst optimizing its global acoustic response. The Optimizer automatically defines the filters that will achieve the required frequency response specified by your target curve. This is particularly useful in post production studios to comply with SMPTE standards (X-Curve).
WELL-FOCUSED PHANTOM SOURCES
The Optimizer automatically time aligns your speakers with more precision than a human could achieve with a tape measure. Time alignment alone makes a huge difference in terms of stereophonic image, but by working in the time domain and improving both the amplitude and phase response of the loudspeakers, the Optimizer achieves high-resolution stereophonic image and well-focused phantom sources simply not achievable otherwise.
SOUND TAILORED TO YOUR AUDIENCE
Trinnov’s sophisticated multipoint algorithm can take into account the measurements of different positions to perform the optimization. A higher weighting may be assigned to the most critical listening position(s), and lower weighting to the remaining points. Therefore you can create instantly recallable listening positions letting you listen at the sweetest spot wherever you or the producer may sit in the room, therefore making sure the production team hears the exact same content as you do.
How To Win:
Mixing is an art form, the winner will be chosen based on the judges' TASTE. There are no absolute rules. Don't be upset if your version of this mix does not make it to the top.
The pureMix team will listen to ALL of the mixes and pick 1 winner.
- This mixing contest is US, Canada and Eu only.
- Upload your mix by 11:59pm EST September 28th, 2020
- Make sure you send in the right song (Don't laugh, it happens quite a bit)
- Don't send the mentor's original mix hoping that we won't notice (Don't laugh, it happens quite a bit)
- Make sure the vocal/drums/bass/guitars are not muted in your mix. Especially the lead vocal. (We think the production was quite nice and would love to hear all of it.)
- Don't change the tempo/key/arrangement. This is a MIXING challenge.
- Louder is not better, we level match everything before we listen (You know who you are)
- Consider using the pureMix LUFS Analyzer to help reach a reasonable final level!
Good luck!
