Learn Advanced Pro Tools Editing Techniques

This course is designed for intermediate to advanced Pro Tools users who want to learn how to use advanced editing features to speed up their recording and production process.

Students will be given instruction and assignments to reinvigorate their workflow in both common tasks as well as creative editing that can greatly enhance recorded performances.

You'll gain a deeper understanding of the entire Pro Tools editing environment and features such as Strip Silence, Playlist Comping, Beat Detective, Elastic Audio, Groove Templates and more.

This online course is project based, meaning you will be working with a real world production that grows from the writing session through to the final production that's ready to be mixed.

In week 1, students will begin by working with the band's original writing demo, recorded in their practice space. By the end of week 4, you will have a completely edited session with the final studio takes that is a polished production ready to be mixed.

You can expect to walk away from this course with an intimate knowledge of all of Pro Tools' editing features, keyboard shortcuts and production tricks used by professionals.

Assignments & Feedback

March 20th Week 1
Working from the band's original demo, you'll be organizing and cleaning up the session so it's a solid pre-production demo that the band can take to the studio and record fresh takes on top of it.
March 27th Week 2
Now that the song has real vocal takes and instrumental overdubs, it's time to start comping performances, tightening grooves and cleaning up the song arrangement.
April 3rd Week 3
Real drums at last! Now that the arrangment and musical elements are in place, the band heads back to the studio and delivers you a fresh set of multi-track drums that need to mesh perfectly with the rest of the production.
April 10th Week 4
Finalizing the session. Now that all the pieces are in the session it's time to do the final tweaks that will make mixing this tune a breeze.

The Song You'll Be Working On

Kid Runner - "Don't Change Me"

Fab Dupont Masterclass

Nothing about Kid Runner is typical, from their truly collaborative writing process to their live show filled with instrument changes and electronic gems. Within their first year, Kid Runner went from bedroom demos to National TV commercials, and the momentum didn't stop there.

Their huge synth hooks, shout along anthems and energetic live show has landed them opportunities to perform with The 1975, The Griswolds, Capital Cities, X Ambassadors, Kitten, Knox Hamilton and more! They played Fashion Meets Music Festival in late 2014 where they shared the stage with artists such as Local Natives, New Found Glory, Cold War Kids, Switchfoot and countless other national acts! It's safe to say that it's been a pretty awesome start for this up-and-coming alternative pop band!
